Preparing ourselves, our families and loved ones for life’s transition
"Every soul shall taste death. And We test you by difficulty and by ease by way of trial. To Us must you return”
Surah Anbiyya 21:35

General information - how to prepare oneself
SPIRITUALLY – HOW DO I PREPARE MYSELF AND MY FAMILY
As Muslims we believe that the present life is a trial in preparation for the next realm of existence. When a Muslim dies, he or she is washed and wrapped in a clean, white cloth. This is usually by family and community members, He /she is buried after a special prayer, preferably the same day. Muslims consider this a final service that they can do for their relatives. This opportunity reminds them that their own existence here on earth is brief.
This is also a time for deep reflection and many will recite Surah Yasin Ch. 36 and Surah Mulk Ch. 67.
In the grave we will be asked three questions:
Who is your Lord?
What is your religion?
Who is your messenger?
If we have lived a good life we will be approached by a kind and wonderful friend who will say “I am your good deeds” – this friend will remain with you until the Day of Judgement.

ALLAH (SWT) asks us to REFLECT AGAIN AND AGAIN on our purpose, our life and our mortality
" And spend in charity out of the substance which we have bestowed on you before death should come to any of you and he would say `O my Lord why don't You give me a respite for a little while? I should then have given largely in charity and I will be one of the doers of good. But to no soul will Allah grant respite when the time appointed for it has come and Allah is well-acquainted with all that you do." Qur’an Surah Al-munafiqun 63:10-11
PRACTICAL STEPS:
• Make sure you have a will
• Discuss your wishes with family
• Assign one person to advocate for you in the event that you cannot advocate for yourself
• discuss burial arrangements with loved ones - if loved ones are of another faith, let them know what your wishes are in terms of an Islamic burial
• check if the insurance you have covers burial costs
